Set up

(2/3)x + 20      This represents 2/3 of a number increased by 20.

1/2( (2/3)x + 20 )   This represents the sum is halved

then that is the same as 2/3(x) + 3

1/2( (2/3)x + 20 ) = (2/3)x + 3     Multiply the left by 1/2

(1/2 * 2/3)x + 1/2*20 = (2/3)x + 3

(1/3)x + 10 = (2/3)x + 3                 You don't have to do this but it might be nice to get rid of the fractions, so multiply both sides by 3

x + 30 = 2x + 6                            Subtract x from both sides.

x - x + 30 = 2x - x + 6                  Combine

30 = x + 6                                     Subtract 6 from both sides.

30 - 6  = x + 6 - 6                         Combine

24 = x

Check

<em><u>LHS</u></em>

(1/2)(2/3)x + 20 * 1/2

1/2 * 2/3 x + 20*1/2

1/3 x + 10

1/3 * 24 + 10

8 + 10

18

<em><u>RHS</u></em>

2/3 * 24 + 3

16 + 3

18 They do check.

Remark. Don't try to understand the problem all at once. Read it through once. You are trying to figure out only where the phrases of information begin and end. Then start writing down the results of each phrase.

Alla [95]

Answer:

a) 0.71

b) 0.06

Step-by-step explanation:

We solve using Baye's Theorem

It is estimated that 88% of senior citizens suffer from sleep disorders and 7% suffer from anxiety. Moreover, 5% of senior citizens suffer from both sleep disorders and anxiety.

We have Two events

A and B

Events A = 88% of senior citizens suffer from sleep disorders

P(A) = 0.88

Event B = 7% suffer from anxiety

P(B) = 0.07

Moreover, 5% of senior citizens suffer from both sleep disorders and anxiety.

P(A and B) = 0.05

a)Given that a senior citizen suffers from anxiety, what is the probability that he or she also suffers from a sleep disorder? Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

This is calculated as:

P(A and B)/P(B)

= 0.05/0.07

= 0.7142857143

Approximately = 0.71

B) Find the probability that a senior citizen suffers from anxiety, given that he or she has a sleep disorder. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

This is calculated as:

P(A and B)/P(A)

= 0.05/0.88

= 0.0568181818

Approximately = 0.06

Use the pencil,plot the point (3 1/2, 2 3/4)
kipiarov [429]

Answer:

The diagram of the plotting point \left(3\frac{1}{2},\:2\frac{3}{4}\right)=\left(3.5,\:2.75\right) is attached below.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given the points

\left(3\frac{1}{2},\:2\frac{3}{4}\right)

as

3\frac{1}{2}=\frac{7}{2}=3.5

2\frac{3}{4}=\frac{11}{4}=2.75

so the point can be visualized as:

\left(3\frac{1}{2},\:2\frac{3}{4}\right)=\left(3.5,\:2.75\right)

Now, we can check the point x = 3.5, and determine the corresponding value y = 2.75 and plot the point at the location (x, y) = (3.5, 2.75)

The diagram of the plotting point \left(3\frac{1}{2},\:2\frac{3}{4}\right)=\left(3.5,\:2.75\right) is attached below.
