An example of personification can be found in "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" in the quote, "his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream." Personification is used because shadows cannot shout, this is a living quality being applied to a nonliving thing, a shadow. Alliteration is also used, because of the repetition of words that begin with "s."
