For years, women’s professional golf was all but ignored. Women’s tournaments received very little attention in the sports pages

, but all that is changing. Golfers like Michelle Wie are becoming almost as well-known as Jordan Spieth. The ESPN television channel covers major women’s tournaments. Most impressive of all, the winnings on the women’s tour are getting downright hefty. Top money for the recent Founders Cup in Phoenix, Arizona, was $225,000. Who is Michelle Wie? What does the word hefty refer to? The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for Loudon and Augusta counties beginning at 7:00 P.M., EST, Friday, December 12, through 3:00 A.M., EST, Sunday, December 14. Snowfall of between 4 and 8 inches is predicted. School closings will be announced on Channel 10 through the evening. How much snow is the storm likely to produce? What do you think EST stands for?

Michelle Wie is a woman's professional Golfer who plays on the LPGA Tour and was born in Honolulu, HI on October 11, 1989 and turned professional just before her 16th birthday who after that attended Stanford University and also Punahou School.
The word hefty in the paragraph above are referring to the payout's received by the winners of the women's tour which in Phoenix, AZ for the Founders Cup was as high as $225,000.
There has been an issued winter storm warning for the counties of Loudon and Augusta December 12th from 7:00 PM, Eastern Standard Time to December 14th 3:00 AM, Eastern Standard Time of roughly 4 to 8 inches and some schools will be closing which will be announced on Channel 10 during the evening hours.
There are different time zones in America that separate the different regions of the United States in order for public broadcasts to explain the region of the time for all to understand and calculate its own time at that given time and one example is the EST, which stands for Eastern Standard Time zone, as well as other zones such as AST, CST, MST, PST, AKST, HST and UTC-11.

Michelle Wie is a professional golfer.

You can infer that hefty means a great deal, as in a lot of money for winning a golf tournament.

The storm is likely to produce 4 to 8 inches of snow.

EST stands for Eastern Standard Time.
