A 1cm diameter, 6 cm long core is removed from a carrot. The resulting hole is filled with corn syrup, and a glass tube is inser

ted into the hole to make a watertight seal. The carrot is suspended in a cup of pure water. Beginning with the carrot cells adjoining the hole, and going out to the carrot epidermal cells exposed to the water, describe what will happen to the carrot cells. Also, what will happen to the level of liquid in the glass tube and why?

■Here,The corn syrup is hypertonic to the carrot, so will take water from the adjoining cells, causing those cells to shrink, become hypertonic to their neighboring cells and to take water from them.

■Conversely the water is hypotonic, and will enter the cells in the outer of the carrot.

■Because of this water will pass from the outside of the carrot to the inside, and cause liquid in the tube to rise

Answer:

Carrot cell will swell and liquid level in glass will reduce

Explanation:

Carrot cell will absorb water and swell in due course of time as there is difference in concentration of water outside and inside the cell.

Similarly, the corn syrup remains intact from the epidermal cell of the carrot due to the glass tube. Being hyper-tonic in nature and also due to presence of water tight glass lid, it is unable to extract water from the adjoining cell; corn syrup will take water from the tube thereby further reducing the level of water in the tube

Describe the importance of bacteria in the carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus cycles. What role do bacteria play in each cycle?
Brilliant_brown [7]

Answer:

Different groups of bacteria help in the cycling of nitrogen , carbon and phosphorus by chemical fixing or releasing in environment.

Explanation:The ecosystem contains flow of energy and cycling of minerals.

In the cycling of minerals, the micro-organisms help in fixing atmospheric nutrients e.g., nitrogen fixation by some bacteria and release the nutrients to the environment by decomposition of organic matters.

Different groups of bacteria help in the cycling of nitrogen , carbon and phosphorus by chemical fixing or releasing in environment.

Answer:

Yes.

Explanation:

Yes, plant is the organism that is capable of both photosynthesis and respiration at the same time because prepare food as well as generate energy from respiration process at the same time. Plants make their own food through the process of photosynthesis by using water and Carbondioxide gas while on the other hand, energy produces in the process of respiration by using of glucose and oxygen.

Squirrels and chipmunks compete for the same food source. What is most likely to happen to the degree of competition between the
ivann1987 [24]

Answer: Increase

According to the competitive exclusion principle, when two or more species in an ecosystem are competing for the same resource. The one which has undergone favorable adaptation and more competing will be likely to derive those resource than the one which has not undergone adaptation or less adaptive to the environment and less competing. Squirrels and chipmunks compete for the same food source and this food source became scare one of the two species is likely to disappear according to the competitive exclusion principle because the degree of competition between two species will increase.
