Communication is the act of exchanging information between parties. Barriers to communication are things or situations that prevent effective communication. Some of which include;

* Emotional barrier- This involves a disconnect between the parties thereby leading to lack of attention.

* Cultural barrier - Difference in viewpoint of the listener could be a barrier.

* Selective hearing - Here one may decide to choose what he listens to thereby missing out on the broad picture.

Misconceptions about communication on the other hand refers to myths about exchange of information. Examples include;

* The believe that sending information is the same as communicating.

* Delivery of the exact same message to all audience.

* The myth that when you communicate automatically all problems are resolved.
