A fortified urban centre found in ancient Greece is known as Polis, they were constructed on natural acropolis or harbours and were in control of the surrounding land.They  are called polis because each policy was one city and each polis was independent from other polis in term of judicial, legal, social practise and institutions. each polis was like as state. Each state was also engaged in international affairs with other non-greek states in matters of political alliances, wars and trade. Polis was also found to have existed in Etruscan, Babylonians and Phoenician cultures. The polis emerged in the dark ages and there were more than 1,000 polis  in Greek world.
