What argument does the author make in "the light at the end of the publishing tunnel?"

English

The author makes the argument that people are no longer reading books; instead they are watching tv and playing on their phones.

As a result, the author argues that ebooks will not save the industry; he ends his article by saying "the light at the end of the tunnel" is really a "speeding train" barreling toward us. By this he means that ebooks are not a source of hope but rather of destruction.

When and where should society draw the line between what we can do and what we technological advances? should do in regards to
Lera25 [3.4K]

Answer:

If I'm understanding this correctly... see below explanation.

Explanation:

Society's ability to improve and advance within all fields is without limitation. Our wildest dreams can be achieved through steady research and ambitious thinkers. However, technological advances sometimes strike controversy. For example, medical advances might be in the works to cure cancer by cloning healthy tissue and cells, and distributing those healthy materials to organs, in order to heal them. This amazing medical discovery could turn dark or be considered unethical, very easily. Consider cloning in general. Would you like to clone a deceased family member to allow them to live once more? It sounds great, but in reality.. you would be working against the natural order of life, religious views, ethical stances. Not only that, but your new clone would merely resemble your relative's physical characteristics. The mind and personality would be completely different. But it is all up to you...

In The Call of the Wild Pikes insubordination in shirking his duties precipitated discipline comes Spitz what does this mean
kramer
"insubordination in shirking his duties precipitated discipline comes Spitz"

Huh..a lot of big words. Well, I know that "insubordination" means someone lower then the person at the top is disobeying said order. So, e.g a frycook at McDonalds refuses to make his boss a Big Mac. "Shirking" means to avoid or get out of doing something, normally. So "shirking his duties" sounds like as if he got out of doing his work or he avoided doing something he's supposed to do. And "precipitated discipline" sounds like Spitz, the character in this sentence seems to mean that he decided to own up to himself and started to build up discipline, becoming an inversion of himself. I hope this helped!
