The marking that usually ends a phrase in music is a breath marking. This looks like an apostrophe above the staff where a phrase ends. This allows the music to flow evenly and not be chopped up by breathing. Breath markings can also add dramatic effects to music with different expressive breathing. Breath marks indicate the proper time to breathe in a pice that best portrays the story or the emotion that the piece of music is trying to get across.
