"Red Roses" is a poem written by Anne sexton and portrays in a poetic and engaging way the events of physical abuse between a mother and her child. In this poem, the mother usually abuses her son physically, while singing a happy and melodious song. Abuses leave many marks on the boy's body and his mother always tells him to never talk about what happened and to always explain that the spots and marks are the result of falls that the boy had. Although the boy is aware of the pain it causes him, he does not tell anyone what really happened and obeys his mother always saying that he got hurt because he fell. The reason for obedience is that the boy likes the song sung and the marks of red roses on his body.
