Although the central purpose of the Crusades was to get the charge of Jerusalem off from the Muslims, there were several causes why European knights and others were prepared to go and confront a combat in a different land.

  1. 3000 Christian Pilgrims massacred in Jerusalem.
  2. Religious Conviction.
  3. The Instinct to Fight.
