Why do you think plagiarism is a problem in academic work? why do think students plagiarize?

It is an issue because plagiarizing work does not mean the child was able to understand the work or fully grasp it that they had to resort to copying and pasting. It's done a lot due to the pressure of a deadline or inability to understand the lessons taught.
