Attacking Constantinople by sea was difficult. The strong currents of the Bosporus endangered hostile fleets without shelter. At the same time it allowed Constantinople to receive supplies by sea to withstand long sieges.

During the war after Pearl Harbor, the Islands of Midway were going to be attacked until American forces found out the Japanese plans.
