Working conditions at that time were very poor, there was no rational delimitation of work hours, with workloads reaching up to 16 hours a day, there were not enough labor rights and minimum guarantees of working conditions,  there were numerous accidents due to the lack of safety in the work environment and there was much exploitation even of child labor.

On account of this, the proletariat organized itself politically in search of the creation of its rights, as well as the respect for its dignity, a fairer division of the fruits of labor and the guarantee of security at work, a fact that promoted socialism in Europe in the century XIX, initiating an ideological dispute that defined Europe and, consequently, all western world, being relevant until the present day.
