erastova [34]

Answer:

Explanation:

It depends largely on who you were and what your ideals were.

It was a good thing for the southern plantation owners. They had to treat the slaves as a very valuable asset. They had to do everything to keep them well and healthy and productive without breaking their economic base.

It was not really that good for the African Americans. They still did did not have the vote. They were free to move, but they were not paid the wages that they deserved. The Southern Owners were very bitter about the defeat of the south. Many lost fortunes because they held Confederate Paper (stocks and bonds) that were most useless. The South was still labor intensive, but they could not afford to pay more than subsistent wages.

Hobbes: Despite advocating the idea of absolutism of the sovereign, Hobbes developed some of the fundamentals of European liberal thought: the right of the individual; the natural equality of all men; the artificial character of the political order (which led to the later distinction between civil society and the state); the view that all legitimate political power must be “representative” and based on the consent of the people; and a liberal interpretation of law that leaves people free to do whatever the law does not explicitly forbid.
