Explanation:

I chose C because in these lines the author shows the reader the deep desire of the main character and points out his parents desire in contraposition. This might result in a conflict in the future, but the author doesn't set this as the main theme of the story. Neither is he establishing the narrator's point of view because we don't know what the character is going to do with his desire, or how is he going to deal with his parents. So, for me , the option that best describes the function of this sentence is introducing the reader a potential conflict.
