Most journalists use third person point of view because its more objects, and sounds like it was written by someone who was there. The exception that exist is that some journalists write in first person, using Iand meand focusing on their own role in the story.
when using a semi colon you can only use it when both sentences on each side of the semi colon are independent. (meaning they can be there own COMPLETE sentences, they have to make sense!) hope this helped!
