Costa Rica es un pais situado en Centro America. Tiene un tamaño total de 51.100 km² y una población aproximada de 5,000,000 de habitantes. Su capital es San José, en cuya área metropolitana vive casi un tercio de la población del país. Su moneda oficial es el Colón.

Este país limita con Nicaragua al norte, el Mar Caribe y Panamá al este, y el Océano Pacífico al sur y oeste.

Las costas se extienden por 1 228 km, de los cuales 1 016 dan al lado del Pacífico y 212 km al Mar Caribe. Dentro de sus políticas de estado se encuentra la protección ambiental y el cuidado de las especies y ecosistemas del país, por lo que un 12% de su territorio se encuentra ecológicamente protegido por el gobierno.
