Answer:

Throughout the history of San Diego County, wild fires have always been in existence.  From 1910 to 2004 there have been 522 fires and more are bound to come.  Even though the main causes include warm, sunny, dry, and windy weather, humans also have had an effect by causing many wildfires and are tending to build in many fire susceptible zones due to huge population increases.  These fires are not the only cause of devastating effects, but the secondary effects such as erosion, landslides, and invasive species cause many problems themselves.  Even though San Diego County has had many fires throughout their history, few fires, such as the Witch Creek and Harris, have had such a devasting impact as these did. Costing millions in damage and killing numerous people these fires burned thousands of acres.  Cases like this show that we need to learn to build on non-susceptible land and continue to learn how to best prevent damages to property and people.

Which of the following are common tectonic settings associated with volcanic activity?Select all that apply.
bagirrra123 [75]

Answer:

Options (A), (B), (C), and (D)

Explanation:

The volcanic activity refers to the eruption of magma at the surface of the ocean floor and continental land areas, forming volcanoes.

Some of the tectonic settings that are associated with volcanic activity are as follows-

  • Mantle plumes- These are the large uprising bodies of magma that are generated due to the formation of convection current in the mantle. These are localized body and are located away from the tectonic boundaries. For example, Hawaii is formed as the plates moved over the mantle plumes.
  • Continental rifts- This refers to the eruption of magma at the surface of the continents, due to the divergent motion of two continental plates. It results in the formation of a rift, rift valley and then later forms an ocean.
  • Island arcs- These are formed due to the collision of two oceanic plates, where the volcanoes are formed on the lighter oceanic plate due to the rising up of magma.
  • Continental arcs- These are formed due to the collision between an oceanic and a continental plate, where the volcanoes are formed due to the uprising of magma in the lighter continental plates.
