There were numerous different types of conflicts, and very common too, between the settlers and the Mexican government, which was not leading to a stable and unified society. The religion though was something that was never a problem between the two sides, and we can comfortably say that it was what was cooling the tensions. The established religion was Catholicism, and all of the new settlers were Catholics, thus there was not a reason for dispute on a religious basis, but instead, the religion was gathering and unifying all of the people in Mexico.
