It essentially brought the New Deal policies to an end because there was such a large leap in the economy. They did add a few things such as wage caps and regulations, hence the creation of insurance. <span />

Because of the Spanish American War (1898) the Philippines-American War (1899 - 1903), Hawaii became a strategic position for the ships sailing from the U.S. to the Philippines and on the way back as waypoint where ships could re-supply or make repairs. Even the still highly naval base of Pearl Harbor was established around this time, in 1899.
