Our ability to use written languages impact us today, because we can actually share our knowledge with others through writing.  We have the ability to explain things to people by writing them down and sharing them with others.  The more common thing that us kids or teens do is write notes to others, that is an example of how we use it in our daily lives.  Without being able to write, we couldn't read, and without reading we couldn't talk.  Human knowledge is passed down through generations, by writing, by speaking to one another.  Without all of this we wouldn't have been smart enough to survive sickness, the ice age, etc..
