You've decided to go into law enforcement as a career. Explain in Spanish what part of law enforcement you want to practice and

why you want to fight crime. *Note: This is a practice activity. Completing this activity will not only prepare you for future tests and assessments but, more importantly, it will enhance your language ability. This activity will not count towards your grade.

1. Pablo: ¡no! ¿Qué más dijo?

In this sentence Pablo is exclaiming a negation. So Pablo says the expression ¡no! to give more emphasis to what he is saying. Recall that in Spanish you use exclamation marks in the beginning and end of a sentence or word.

2. Julio: No, hombre. Pero hay muchas computadoras en la biblioteca. Tienen la red y todo. Yo mandé un e-mail a muchos amigos y recibí la de Iris-Teresa. Es muy fácil.

Computadoras means computers in Spanish. So, this is a feminine noun and it is given in the plural form. So, there are many computers in the library.

3. Pablo: Entonces, voy a la biblioteca esta tarde. Quiero ver si tengo mensajes. Tal vez también tengo un e-mail de Iris-Teresa. Posiblemente me dijo algo de José Antonio.

Biblioteca means library in Spanish. This is a feminine noun given in an singular form. In Spanish the definite article matches the noun both in gender and number, so that's the reason why we use the definite article la, that is, la biblioteca (the library).

4. Julio: Llamo del hotel

Hotel in English is the same work as in Spanish. So, the sentence Llamo del hotel means I call from the hotel

5. Julio: Para mí, no cuesta mucho. Tengo la tarjeta de crédito de mi padre

Padre means father in Spanish. There are several ways to call your father, so:

Papá - Dad

Papi - Daddy

From all these words, padre is the most formal word.
