Began in Paris, but eventually spread to most of Europe

A lot of the ideas were spread through philosophers writing back and forth to each other through writing in the newspaper

Most of the writing was done in French, the diplomatic language

The enlightenment was a time in the 1700's in Europe when people began to question old ideas and search for knowledge. The name Enlightenment refers to the light of knowledge that supposedly replaces the darkness of superstition and ignorance. Enlightenment thinkers believed that science and reason could improve people's lives.

America's goal was mainly just to defend themselves against England while England's goal was to conquer the entire 13 colonies again. Also the americans had the whole nation supporting themselves therefore giving more effort to defeat the British. Lastly the americans used guerrilla warfare while the british fought in a civilized way which gave them a disadvantage
