Answer:

1. Iran remained a politically independent nation. However, Russia controlled trade in northern Iran, and Britain controlled trade in southern Iran. This is an example of a Sphere of influence

2. The British took control of Burma and made it a province of India, which was also under the control of the British government. Burma and India were British Colonies

3. When the British took over Kenya, they created a government of British civil servants that did not include any native Kenyans. Therefore, Kenya was subject to Direct rule

Explanation:

1. A Sphere of influence, in international relations, is an area or region over which a state or organization has a level of economic, military, political or cultural exclusivity. Russia and the United Kingdom signed the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907 on August 31, 1907, which ended the long lasting rivalry between the two in Central Asia. In regards to Iran, the agreement recognized its independence, but divided it into 3 separate zones. The north of Iran was designated as an exclusive sphere of influence for Russian interests. A smaller zone in southeastern Iran was recognized as an exclusive sphere for Britain. The area separating these 2 spheres was designated as a neutral zone.

2. A colony is a country, territory or area under the full or partial political control of another country or nation, and is occupied by settlers from that country or region. The British Raj was the rule of the British Crown on the Indian subcontinent from 1858 to 1947, and British rule in Burma went from 1824 to 1948, when both gained their independence.

3. Direct rule is a system in which an Imperial power or central government takes over direct control of the legislature, executive and civil administration of a previously self governed territory. European settlers imposed a direct rule on their colonies in southern Africa, and in order to thrive, they demanded special political and economic rights and protection.
