History

The civil war influenced the role of government in the United States because it highlighted how the national government was the sovereign power. The word sovereign means "ultimate power." Because the states of the United States were successful in making their own form of government, the national government started to get a lot of power, and showed dominance to the people that were in the civil war. The civil war proved that the government was very powerful and that no one could take it down, specifically the ones that they were battling in the war (The Southerns). After the civil war, the government showed that it is the role that dominates in the world of politics in the United States, and it showed to everyone that they have to follow what the government orders.
