She speaks of when she ran away to another country so that she can know what does it feels like to be treated similarly and to discover happiness and achievement. The line in her speech for evidence is: “So over there, far away, I was happy, and because I was happy I had some success, and you know that too.”

Although there were 2 houses in Parliament, the House of Lords was made up of Nobles and could veto any bill passed by the House of Commons. So, they could basically do whatever they wanted.  

- Also, less than 5% of the people could vote

- Catholics and non-Anglican Protestants could not vote or serve in Parliament
