The role of the citizen is a role with many parts that make up one model character. A good citizen must remain loyal to its country and respect all laws laid down by its government. They also work to improve their communities and stay up-to-date on all the goings-on. But what is a citizen? What makes someone a citizen? When you are a citizen, how do you be a good one? These children have a dual citizenship: citizenship in both the U.S. and the country in which their parents have citizenship. Once the child becomes a legal adult they may choose one of the two countries to gain permanent citizenship in. Citizenship by naturalization By way of the process of naturalization one who is not a citizen of the United States may become one. The steps of the naturalization procedure are: (1) file an application. (2) take an examination (3) file a legal petition for naturalization (4) appear at a court hearing and finally (5) take an oath of allegiance. It is of course necessary to meet certain requirements before one can become a citizen. The applicant must be a legal adult (otherwise they gain citizenship when their parents do), and have entered the country in a legal manner. They also must have been a resident of the U.S. for at least five successive years before beginning the application process. Besides that, the aspirant to citizenship must fully realize the English language (be able to read, write, and speak in English) and show proficient knowledge of American history and government.
