Lets say the number = x
the equation is:

2/3 x - 6 = -10  (add 6 to each side)

2/3 x - 6 + 6 = -10 + 6

2/3 x = -4  (multiply each side by 2/3 's reciprocal or 3/2)

\frac{2}{3} x* \frac{3}{2} =-4* \frac{3}{2}

x = - \frac{12}{2}

x = -6


The number is -6
