Interpretive directors focus on the playwright's text and try to translate it to the stage as faithfully as possible, unlike creative directors, who emphasize on their personal vision. Creative directors often change the setting (location and period) of the action, add songs and dances, scenes from other texts from the same playwright or period, and so-called stage managers, who help the audience understand the meaning of the play. Such additional elements are not present in the interpretive director's play.
