The "pigs" in the story represented the leaders of the farm. It was their idea to overthrow their humans, such as Mr Jones. When he died, Napoleon and Snowball (young pigs), led the revolution. They were very successful in their mission and were able to rename the farm as "Animal Farm." The "rats" in the story were highly relevant in showcasing the leadership difference between Old Major and Napoleon. during Old Major's time, the rats were voted as comrades of the farm animals, but during Napoleon's time, they were considered as enemies.
