It was a private corporation, in theory, that actually served as a government-sponsored monopoly. He saw the bank as a corrupt, elitist institution that wielded too much power over the economy by manipulating paper money and its circulation. Using his presidential powers, he<span> vetoed the re-charter of the Second Bank of the United States for the reason that it backed “the advancement of the few at the expense of the many.” </span>
