The advantage of being tested and knowing one status as regard a particular disease is that one is better informed and equipped with the necessary tool that ensures his or her well-being. On the other hand, testing for a disease could lead to many other things such as low self esteem, depression and most especially discrimination from the society as many people may not want to associate with someone who has a particular genetic disorder.
