It is true that in addition to learning cuneiform, Sumerian scribes were required to study mathematics, science, and literature.

Sumerian scribes were very smart and were considered important people un the Sumerian society. They carved rocks, monuments and the clay tablets for all the people to read. The scribes had a very good education. They had to learn science, mathematics, and literature. They had the great responsibility of recording practically everything and they had to be very knowledgable.
