Chopsticks were created about 5,000 years ago. The philosopher Confucius encouraged their use because he did not like using kniv

es. To him, knives represented violence. Because of the popularity of chopsticks, people began to cut their food smaller so that it could be picked up by chopsticks. Therefore, the knife was no longer needed. Chopsticks allowed food to be lifted up delicately instead of being pierced. With increased use, these utensils eventually spread to other parts of Asia. An ideal choice compared to other eating instruments, chopsticks have long been used as utensils in Asian countries. They are the foremost means of eating in China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam. Chopsticks are usually made from bamboo, other types of woods, metal, or bone. The design is very simplistic but efficient because chopsticks are just comprised of two long tapered sticks. In constrast, Forks are complicated with their pointed prongs. In China, the disposable wooden chopsticks are overly popular. The country makes about 45 billion pairs of chopsticks each year. The loss of trees is high because of the excessive amount being used for these utensils. Deforestation has become a serious problem in China. This means that 16 to 25 million trees are cut down for chopsticks. Disposable chopsticks are going to be a difficult habit to completely eliminate. This was made evident 10 years ago when a call was made to stop the use of these wooden chopsticks. Little has changed. In addition, the chopstick industry has created jobs for many people. Restaurants also contribute to the waste because disposable chopsticks are cheaper and more convenient than sterilizing reusable ones. However, people are leaning toward the movement of carrying personal chopsticks. It is called BYOC, which means "Bring Your Own Chopsticks." The program is catching on and is helping reduce the use of disposable chopsticks. When a person eats out, personal chopsticks can be carried from restaurant to restaurant, which will help cut down on waste. In addition, people can personalize their chopsticks to their preferences. Chopsticks can become the latest accessory. 5 Which of the following sentences would support the claim that chopsticks are associated with non-violence?

Compare / contrast the characters of Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet. How does each
navik [9.2K]

Answer:

Romeo the son and heir of Montague and Lady Montague. A young man of about sixteen, Romeo is handsome, intelligent, and sensitive. Though impulsive and immature, his idealism and passion make him an extremely likable character. He lives in the middle of a violent feud between his family and the Capulets, but he is not at all interested in violence. His only interest is love. Juliet the daughter of Capulet and Lady Capulet. A beautiful thirteen-year-old girl, Juliet begins the play as a naïve child who has thought little about love and marriage, but she grows up quickly upon falling in love with Romeo, the son of her family’s great enemy. Because she is a girl in an aristocratic family, she has none of the freedom Romeo has to roam around the city, climb over walls in the middle of the night, or get into swordfights. Nevertheless, she shows amazing courage in trusting her entire life and future to Romeo, even refusing to believe the worst reports about him after he gets involved in a fight with her cousin. Juliet’s closest friend and confidant is her nurse, though she’s willing to shut the Nurse out of her life the moment the Nurse turns against Romeo.
