The images used here represent a very significant event in American history. That event was the attacks on September 11, 2001. It was important because aside from the British invasion during the war of 1812 and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour, there had never been an attack of such a magnitude on American soil. America thought it was safe and isolated from the problems in the rest of the world. The picture of the newspaper, with the headline "U.S. ATTACKED" would have been incredibly shocking to those who read it. The other two images of the impacts themselves and the second plane, moving towards the towers show the magnitude of the attacks.

Each person remembers clearly what he or she was doing on the day that critical events took place. I was teaching when 9/11 occurred. The first thing I did was phone my wife (who is an American living in Canada) and tell her to turn on the TV.

She started to ask me why. I didn't know what to say. It was about 9 o'clock (am) our time. I told her just to do it. I wasn't sure what exactly was going on, but there were a lot of students crowded around the TV. It struck me that it must be important. I normally teach Math, but on that day nothing was taught. As the attack sunk in, we silently kept vigil that day, mourning the fact that man finds it necessary to murder innocents.

I was also teaching when Kennedy was shot. I had exactly the same reaction -- a sadness that was hard to live through. We never learn.

Option 2. idea of separating the parts of government that make the laws, enforce the laws, and settle disputes over the laws was most influentially argued by Montesquieu.

This was the person in the United States that is known for the fact that he advocated that the government of areas have to strive to divide the government t into several divisions.
