What social commentary does Mark Twain make in this excerpt from "The £1,000,000 Bank-Note"?
Komok [63]
The correct answer is B: Rich Londoners are quick to bet huge sums of money to settle trivial arguments. This is because they were betting whether or not he would starve in a month. This is of course, not an actual concern and just an exaggeration, since rich people don't starve.

Explain existentialism and quote text from "Hope, Despair, and Memory
swat32
Existentialism is a philosophy that gives value on individualism. It focuses on man's interest, endeavors, and achievements.

An example of a quote from the novel of Elie Wiesel related to existentialism is,

“And now the boy is turning to me. “Tell me,” he asks, “what have you done with my future, what have you done with your life?” And I tell him that I have tried. That I have tried to keep memory alive, that I have tried to fight those who would forget. Because if we forget, we are guilty, we are accomplices.

The excerpt was clear about the concern of the boy in his future while the answer was also about fighting for life, survival, and saving the memory of the past to tell history.

For this question, due to the answers given, this question requires connotation to find the answer. The only answer that really describes what is said on the question is the first one: Race riots took place all over the country, because the word race tells about the racism, and the word riot has a negative connotation, and in this case, riot means angry protestors, meaning that the sentence describes the anger over racism.
