To prevent the spread of communism in Southeast Asia is why did President Kennedy get the United States involved in the Vietnam War so the reason was the usage of containment policy.
It affected the society because Martin Luther King was a very good leader who wasn't afraid of advocating for human rights, especially Black people human rights. When he got killed, that affected the society because people feared that if they advocated for people rights, they would get shot and killed just as MLK did.
