So. hmmm we know the arc entry has a vertical clearance of 66 feet, and is 46feet wide

notice the picture below.. if we move the arc to the origin, we end up with a parabola like so, from -23, 0 to 23, 0

now  \bf \boxed{y=a(x-{{ h}})^2+{{ k}}}\\\\
x=a(y-{{ k}})^2+{{ h}}\qquad\qquad  vertex\ ({{ h}},{{ k}})\\\\
-----------------------------\\\\
y=a(x-0)^2+0\implies y=ax^2
\\\\\\
\textit{what's the value of "a"?  well, we know }
\begin{cases}
x=23\\
y=-66
\end{cases}
\\\\\\
-66=a(23)^2\implies \cfrac{-6}{529}=a\qquad thus\qquad \boxed{y=-\cfrac{6}{529}x^2}

Jason bought 2/5 pounds of jellybeans for $5.00. How much would a whole pound of jellybeans cost?
aliina [53]
300 jelly beans cost you x dollars.
if you divide 300 by x, you get the number of jelly beans per dollar.
now you are buying 1/2 a dollar's worth of jelly beans, so you will be getting 1/2 * 300 / x which is equal to 150 / x jelly beans.
the actual number of jelly beans you get is determined by x.
if x = 1, the you get 150 jelly beans for 1/2 of a dollar.
if x = 3, then you get 50 jelly beans for 1/2 of a dollar.

you can also work this out by determing the cost per jelly bean.
if you pay x dollars for 300 jelly beans, then the cost per jelly bean is equal to x/300.
now you want to buy 50 cents worth of jelly beans.
the number of jelly beans you can buy is the money you pay divided by the cost per jelly bean.
you pay 50 cents which is equal to 1/2 of a dollar.
you will get 1/2 / (x/300) which is equal to ((1/2)*300)/x which is equal to 150/x.
now let's assume x is equal to 1.
you will get 150/1 = 150 jelly beans.
now let's assume x is equal to 3.
you will get 150/3 = 50 jelly beans.

the equation becomes:
number of jelly beans = 150/x
x = cost for 300 jelly beans.
it's just a matter of how you want to look at it.

another way to look at it would be to set up a ratio.
the ratio would be:
300/x = y/.5
this ratio says:
300 jelly beans is to x dollars as y jelly beans is to half a dollar.
cross multiply to get:
.5*300 = x*y

simplify to get:
150 = x*y
divide both sides of the equation by x to get:
y = 150/x
same equation again.
x is the cost for 300 jelly beans.
y is the number of jelly beans you can get for half a dollar.

Absolute value -1+5 |n|=44 pls show work
dimulka [17.4K]

Answer:

n = -9 or 9

Step-by-step explanation:

-1 + 5|n| = 44

~Add 1 to both sides

5|n| = 45

~Divide 5 to both sides

|n| = 9

~Knowing the absolute value rule, the answer can be positive or negative.

Best of Luck!

The radius of a circular oil slick expands at a rate of 2 m/min.
zhuklara [117]
As we knw that the dr/dt = 2
 And  The area of the circular slick is given by formul
 A = (pi)r^2.
Now lets take derivative: <span>dA/dt=2πrdr/dt
As we knw that radius is 25
so</span><span>dA/dt=2π(25)(2)=100π
which is equal to
=314.16 per minute this is how area is increasing
now for part b
</span><span> t = 4, the radius will have increased to 8 m.
   now we will put the values in formula dr/dt
</span>so it will be.dA/dt=2π(8)(2)
=32π
=100.53 is the answer
hope it helps

Consider randomly selecting a student at a certain university, and let A denote the event that the selected individual
Stells [14]

Answer:

(a) P( A ∩ B )=0.5 is not possible.

(b) 0.7

(c) 0.3

(d) 0.3

(e) 0.4

Step-by-step explanation:

Given information: The alphabet A and B represents the following events

A : Individual has a Visa credit card.

B: Individual has a MasterCard.

P(A)= 0.6 and P(B)=0.4.

(a)

We need to check whether P( A ∩ B ) can be 0.5 or not.

A\cap B\subset A and A\cap B\subset B

P(A\cap B)\leq P(A) and P(A\cap B)\leq P(B)

P(A\cap B)\leq 0.6 and P(A\cap B)\leq 0.4

From these two inequalities we conclude that

P(A\cap B)\leq 0.4

Therefore, P( A ∩ B )=0.5 is not possible.

(b)

Let P(A\cap B)=0.3

We need to find the probability that student has one of these two types of cards.

P(A\cup B)=P(A)+P(B)-P(A\cap B)

Substitute the given values.

P(A\cup B)=0.6+0.4-0.3=0.7

Therefore the probability that student has one of these two types of cards is 0.7.

(c)

We need to find the probability that the selected student has neither type of card.

P(A'\cup B')=1-P(A\cup B)

P(A'\cup B')=1-0.7=0.3

Therefore the probability that the selected student has neither type of card is 0.3.

(d)

The event that the select student has a visa card, but not a mastercard is defined as

A-B

It can also written as

A\cap B'

The probability of this event is

P(A\cap B')=P(A)-P(A\cap B)

P(A\cap B')=0.6-0.3=0.3

Therefore the probability that the select student has a visa card, but not a mastercard is 0.3.

(e)

We need to find the probability that the selected student has exactly one of the two types of cards.

P(A\cap B')+P(A\cap B')=P(A\cup B)-P(A\cap B)

P(A\cap B')+P(A\cap B')=0.7-0.3

P(A\cap B')+P(A\cap B')=0.4

Therefore the probability that the selected student has exactly one of the two types of cards is 0.4.
