Totalitarianism is considered the highest form of authoritarianism. While authoritarianism government restricts the individual liberty and political freedom of its citizens and a party or a person holds all the authority on the other hand Totalitarian is a political process that used state-controlled media and spread propaganda to justify the restriction of people's right and other political party. it developed after world war one in the era of Stalin, Hitler, etc.

In large part, the emerging totalitarianism was driven by popular nationalistic and ideological movements. The leaders of these movements were not autocratic rulers, or otherwise influential, right from the start, but they used political scheming and oratory skills to inflame others and to garner the support necessary to gain power.
The rise of Lenin, Mussolini, and Hitler are good examples.
