You have used the word slaughtered correctly, but with the word dozen you should either put "I slaughtered a dozen" or "I slaughtered dozens" as this will then make the sentence correct.

antoniya [11.8K]

Answer:

Indirectly through his lack of action

Explanation:

In this excerpt from "The Gift of Magi", Jim was described as stopping inside the door and being as immovable as a setter. This was a description of a person not showing any action. His eyes were fixated upon Della, and they were also expressionless. That was the reason why Della found it difficult to read his expression and this made her terrified.

The writer in this excerpt was developing the character of Jim indirectly because no one could really tell what he was up to. He achieved this through Jim's lack of action as demonstrated in the descriptions.

Ber [7]

The answer is D. A dialogue involves a exchange of opinions, like a conversation towards a particular subject. Even an inner dialogue, not talking directly to the people, still passes important information that help the audience understand things not so obvious. In sentences A, B and C, phrases like "I told them" and "I said" don't seem to indicate a dialogue. But in D, "I asked them" invites the audience to a conversation.

Explanation: in a written work, a conflict is a struggle between opposite forces, usually it is between a character (the main character or a very important one) and himself (internal conflict) or society or another character (external conflict). In the given excerpt we can see a discussion between Lindo and Meimei, this is an example of external conflict, because it is between two characters.
