Restate the author's thesis statement: the author's thesis statement must be restated but in your own words. This, of course, should not alter the meaning of the original text.
Be Objective: this requires asking a question of what you are supposed to achieve with the summary before attempting to summarize a text
Therefore, focusing on minor details it is not part of a feature of a good summary.
