The first colonial newspaper appeared in 1704 in America and remained as the only newspaper in the colonies. By 1740 there were 16 newspapers in the British colonies each having their uniqueness. Early American newspapers, typically, had a foreign news section and other contained local reports on wars, natural disasters, sales, published death notices, and advertisements.
