The correct answer to this open question is the following.

One way in which policies or monarchs and leaders withstood challenges in the period 1450 to 1750 was because they were absolute rulers of their kingdoms. Absolutism was the factor that favored them because it gave them total and absolute power to exert their will over their territories and people. AS they demanded absolute obedience to their subjects, no act of rebellion was tolerated was heavily punished, even with death. This absolute power helped kings to withstand challenges in the period 1450 to 1750 and to have the allegiance of their kingdoms.

What effect did the candidacies of Eugene McCarthy and Robert Kennedy have on President Lyndon B. Johnson's reelection campaign?
Tcecarenko [31]

Amidst the controversy generated by his war policies in the Vietnam War, President Lyndon B. Johnson wasn't as favored by the people as he had been before.

Anti-war Democratic Senator Eugene McCarthy launched his presidential campaign as a means to unseat Johnson.  He appealed to young Americans who were dissatisfied with the government.

After the positive response of McCarthy's campaign, Senator Robert F. Kennedy entered the race on the Democratic side. This ultimately forced Johnson to withdraw the election.
