The correct form:
El año pasado fui a la playa. Cuando estaba en la playa fui a la tienda de joyas para comprarle a mi novio un regalo de cumpleaños. La tienda era muy agradable, tenía hermosos anillos y collares. Estaba feliz de encontrar un reloj barato. Yo sabía que a mi novio le encantaría. También le compré a mi mamá el perfume que le gusta en la tienda departamental. Creo que el perfume huele a rosas viejas.

 Last year, I went to the beach. When I went to the beach, I went to the jewelry store to buy my boyfriend a gift for his birthday. It was very nice, with beautiful rings and necklaces. I was happy to find a cheap watch. I knew that my boyfriend would love that. I also bought my mom the perfume she likes in the department store. I think it smells like old flowers.
