Write an equivalent expression for (x-6)(x-3) by using the distributive property

Mathematics

Answer:

1.) (x-6)(x-3)=x^{2} -9x+18

2.)  (2m+3)(m-1)=2m^{2} +m-3

Step-by-step explanation:

When solving these types of expressions we can use two different methods (both are ways to solve via distributive method), the FOIL method or the box method. I'm going to be using the FOIL method, as the box method is easier to understand <em>visually</em>.

FOIL stands for "First Outside Inside Last"

You multiply the first terms, then the outside terms, then the inside terms, and finally the last terms and then combine like terms.

In the first expression, (x-6)(x-3), we can use FOIL as follows:

  • The First terms are: the x in (x-6) and the x in (x-3). They are the first terms in both parenthesis.
  • The Outside terms are: the x in (x-6) and the -3 in (x-3). They are the outer most terms in the expression.
  • The Inside terms are: the -6 in (x-6) and the x in (x-3). They are the inner most terms in the expression.
  • The Last terms are: the -6 in (x-6) and the -3 in (x-3). They are the last terms in both parenthesis.

Multiply them in order, starting with

F: x*x=x^{2}

O: x*-3=-3x

I: -6 * x=-6x

L: -6*-3=18

Combine like terms, in this case the like terms are: -3x and -6x, when combined, it equals -9x. Now, we put the expression in the proper order.

Your answer should be: x^{2} -9x+18

Do the same process for the next expression.

  • First: 2m and m
  • Outside: 2m and -1
  • Inside: 3 and m
  • Last: 3 and -1

Multiply:

F: 2m*m=2m^{2}

O:2m*-1=-2m

I: 3 * m = 3m

L: 3 * -1 = -3

Combine like terms: -2m and 3m

-2m+3m=-m

Your answer should be: 2m^{2} +m-3

Hii can someone help with this pls :)
BlackZzzverrR [31]

Answer:

R(x,y) = (0.8,-1.2)

Step-by-step explanation:

The coordinates of QS are:

Q(x_1,y_1) = (-2,-6)

S(x_2,y_2) = (5,6)

The ratio is represented as:

R_{m:n} = 2:3

Required

Find the coordinates of R

The coordinates of R is calculated by:

R(x,y) = (\frac{mx_2 + nx_1}{m+n},\frac{my_2 + ny_1}{m+n})

Substitute values for m, n, x's and y's

R(x,y) = (\frac{2 * 5 + 3 * -2}{2+3},\frac{2*6 + 3*-6}{2+3})

R(x,y) = (\frac{4}{5},\frac{-6}{5})

R(x,y) = (0.8,-1.2)

What is the equation of the line?
umka2103 [35]

Answer:

y=2x+8

Step-by-step explanation:

All of the choices are in slope-intercept, or y=mx+b form where m is the slope and b is the y intercept. Therefore if the slope is 2, and the y intercept is 8 the equation should be y=2x+8.

Find the equation of a circle with a center at (7,2) and a point on the circle at (2,5)?
monitta

Answer:

(x-7)^2+(y-2)^2=34

Step-by-step explanation:

We want to find the equation of a circle with a center at (7, 2) and a point on the circle at (2, 5).

First, recall that the equation of a circle is given by:

(x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^2

Where (<em>h, k</em>) is the center and <em>r</em> is the radius.

Since our center is at (7, 2), <em>h</em> = 7 and <em>k</em> = 2. Substitute:

(x-7)^2+(y-2)^2=r^2

Next, the since a point on the circle is (2, 5), <em>y</em> = 5 when <em>x</em> = 2. Substitute:

(2-7)^2+(5-2)^2=r^2

Solve for <em>r: </em>

<em />(-5)^2+(3)^2=r^2<em />

Simplify. Thus:

25+9=r^2

Finally, add:

r^2=34

We don't need to take the square root of both sides, as we will have the square it again anyways.

Therefore, our equation is:

(x-7)^2+(y-2)^2=34
