His credentials play a huge part in determining the source's importance/ reliability, for anyone can write about anything but not everyone is a reliable source. Some may have copied from others while some may be just stating their own opinions. Moreover, if a person is/ have been an expert in the particular field and has done lots of research on it, then, his opinions are credible enough to be used for further studies.
Again, the site on which the source is posted and the nature of the information posted such as when and how updated it is also determines the credibility of the source. If it is the updated, and most recently posted truth about the source in a trustworthy site and not just some random site of the web world, then we can be sure of the authenticity and credibility of that source.
