Building through the Sierra Nevada Mountains was very difficult and dangerous. Temperatures were freezing during the winter and in one year alone there were 44 storms. There was the great danger of an avalanche for the men working through 18 feet of snow and camping on the tunnels beneath it. Creating tunnels through the mountains required blasting with nitroglycerin. Advancing at one foot of mountain at a time, a total of 11 tunnels was created.

What territories were gained by the United States as a result of the Mexican-American war?
GalinKa [24]

Hey there!

There are a few different territories that were gained by the Mexican-American war. The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo granted the Mexican cession to the U.S. If by territories you mean states, the Mexican Cession included parts of states including California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming. When Texas was completely annexed, it gave the U.S. all of Texas and parts of New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Kansas. The Gadsden Purchase also gave the U.S. parts of Southern Arizona and New Mexico including cities such as Tucson.

I hope this helps!

What are some of the disadvantages of the european union?
FinnZ [79.3K]
Communication Barriers It becomes very difficult for the EU to communicate with all of it’s citizens because they all speak different language. This also impact the feeling of unity among it’s members. It makes it harder to bring people together. Shared Wealth Is Not Always Good Large and wealthy countries that are members of the European Union, like Germany, have to share their wealth with much smaller and poorer countries. This prevents any one country from becoming too powerful, which is a bad thing for countries that have the ability to become world leaders.
