The Fugitive Slave Act had the following effects:

A. It convinced Northerners that slavery was immoral;

B. It convinced Southerners that Northerners would help return slaves.

The principal aim of this Act was to lower the heat, tension and aggressiveness between the North and the South. Besides that it was supposed to explain people why slavery was wrong and to encourage them to be more humane.
