What’s the difference between preterite and imperfect and do some for me to understand? Thanks

estábamos
son 
hace
íbamos
están
visitamos
vi
aprendimos

Both are to talk about the past, preterite is for actions that have already ended and did not made any change on the story or have no connection with the present like yesterday was a bad day
 the imperfect is for events that are expressed in the past but has no limits like Mondays are bad days  :)
