Poland has been Catholic for a long while and since the Church is an ecclesiestical institution, it plays no big role in trade. The Soviet Union had a very protective attitude towards its products and only a few categories of them were exported; it is quite possible that exports dropped during this period. THe Warsaw Pact marked a significant counterpoint to the NATO initiative but most countries were already good trade partners to the Soviet Union (and again, the pact was not about trade).
